Help for Staff & Admins
Organizations, roles, and the curriculum admin tool — all platform-owner or content-role territory.
Parent/teacher requests
Requests routed to platform support show up at Help Requests (nav bar) — reply from the same thread view anyone else uses at Contact. See Class Health for stale invites and stalled classes/families.
Organizations & roles
How do I create a new organization?
Go to /admin/orgs — this page only opens for accounts holding the platform-ownerrole, held anywhere. Use the "Create an organization" form: a name and a kind (platform, teacher-studio, partner, or school). Everyone else's membership (teachers, content editors, and so on) is granted inside one of these organizations, so it needs to exist first.
How do I grant someone a role?
On /admin/orgs, use the "Grant a role" form: pick the organization, enter the person's email, and pick a role. The person must already have an account (created at /account or /teacher/signup) before you can grant them anything — this tool grants a role to an existing account, it doesn't create one. "Existing organizations" further down the page lists every org and its current members so you can double-check who has what.
What do the different roles mean?
There are two families of roles, sharing the same membership mechanism:
Business roles — platform-owner (superuser: everything, everywhere, regardless of which org the membership is in); teacher (create classes, manage roster, assign homework, draft content, billing); partner and school-admin (org-management and content/publishing permissions suited to a partner org or a school account, not day-to-day class-running); parent(holds no org permissions at all — a parent's real power is owning their own learner profiles directly, not anything granted through this table).
Admin-surface roles — content-editor(can open the curriculum admin tool and draft content, but can't publish or approve anything); content-reviewer (everything content-editor can do, plus publishing and approving audio); champion-audio-contributor (can submit champion-recorded audio only). These are granted inside whichever org the person belongs to — a platform-wide content editor gets it in the platform org, but a partner or school can grant the same roles to their own in-house people scoped to their own org.
Curriculum admin tool
How do I review or edit curriculum content?
The curriculum admin tool lives at /admin/spelling, /admin/sat-english, and /admin/science — one editor per subject, matching the content schemas in packages/curriculum. There's no separate admin login: sign in the same way as everyone else at /account, using an account that's been granted the content-editor or content-reviewer role (or platform-owner) in the platform organization via /admin/orgs. Without one of those roles, the tool shows a "Not authorized" message instead of the editors.
How do I review the hidden-gems and leftover spelling word queues?
That's the word review tool at /admin/review-queue. It covers several tabs: hidden gems (candidate words with a real difficulty/frequency signal, not yet reviewed), leftover (words with no strong signal), Groups (regular inflections/derivations of an already-classified base word, e.g. "crimped" under "crimp", pulled out so a speller who knows the base doesn't need the derived form reviewed separately), plus homonym/audio-variant/compound/phrase tabs for related cleanup work. You can search, filter, sort, and export from any tab.
Marking a word reviewed or overriding its verdict (Worthy / Not Worthy / Maybe) — which can move it between queues — needs the content-reviewerrole specifically (or platform-owner); plain content-editor access is enough to open and browse the tool but not enough to make those calls, since deciding which words make the final cut is treated as a step above drafting. Every override is recorded in a history log with an undo option, and status is stored server-side, so it's shared across whoever opens the tool rather than per-browser.
